5 PKK terrorists surrender, 2 others killed in southeastern, eastern Turkey

A total of five PKK terrorists have surrendered to security forces in southeastern Turkey’s Şırnak province, the governorate said Saturday.

The five terrorists, including a minor, willingly turned themselves in to security forces at the Habur border gate to Iraq in Silopi district, the statement said, adding that necessary proceedings were launched.

Meanwhile the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) announced Saturday that two PKK terrorists were killed in anti-terror operations carried out in Turkey’s eastern Ağrı province.

The airstrike was launched at 6:51 p.m. upon receiving intelligence and targeted shelters and caves used by the terrorist organization, the statement added.

Founded in 1978, the PKK has waged a decades-long bloody campaign against Turkey.

The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU, resumed its armed campaign in July 2015 after a brief reconciliation period.

Since that time, the PKK has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 security personnel and civilians, including women and children, while more than 4,000 security personnel and over 2,000 civilians have been injured.
