Thanks to the Plainview YMCA and Plainview Main Street, the annual Turkey Trot will return to downtown Plainview Friday, Nov. 17 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The event will consist of a Broadway mile walk/run and a downtown tour 5K, which will begin and end on the north side of the courthouse. Adults and children are welcome to participate in the event and families are encouraged to run/walk together.
The Turkey Trot is in its third year downtown, but has been around since about 2010 according to YMCA Health and Wellness Director Ashley Mayberry.
“We really enjoy partnering with the YMCA for this event,” Plainview Main Street Manager Melinda Brown said.
Ashley always creates a great route and we encourage everyone to come downtown to participate.”
“We did change the route this year,” Mayberry said. “Last year it was three miles, this year it is more of a 5k. We made a change to incorporate the Contemporary Art Museum Plainview.”
Early-bird registration for the downtown 5K is $25, which is effective through Nov. 9, from Nov. 10 to race day the cost is $30. Early registration for the Broadway mile walk/run is $15, from Nov. 10 to race day the cost is $20. Race day registration begins at 5 p.m. Both races will begin at 5:30 p.m.
A variety of awards will be given for both events and water and snacks will be available following the race.
Race sponsors include City of Plainview, Webb & Webb Optometrist, Edward Jones Investments, LKRSG & Co., Fitness Specialist, Casseroles to Go, Sonic and West Texas Clinic of Chiropractic.
Money raised from the event will go towards scholarships for families to participate in the Y’s various services.
Mayberry said there are also several volunteer positions open for the event, including sign holders to help participants navigate the course.
Registration forms are available at the YMCA, 313 Ennis, or Main Street Office, 717 Broadway, and forms and checks go to Plainview YMCA, 313 Ennis St., Plainview, Attn: Ashley Mayberry.
