A 21-year-old man died Saturday in the Eastern Townships after crashing his car into a tree in the municipality of Bury.
According to early information from the Sûreté du Québec, the driver tried to illegally pass someone on Route 108 and then swerved off the road while attempting to avoid a wild turkey. The accident happened around 2:30 p.m., police said.
The man was transferred to a local hospital, but died from his injuries.
Accident technicians with the provincial police are investigating to try to establish more details. The man’s car will also be analyzed to see if a mechanical issue could have played a part in the accident.
Police said the 21-year-old driver was from the municipality of Stornoway.
