ISTANBUL, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Thursday.
The lira stood at 3.5875 against the U.S. dollar at 0457 GMT, weakening from 3.5770 at Wednesday’s close.
The yield on the benchmark 10-year bond was at 11.03 percent in spot trade on Wednesday and rose to 11.06 percent in Thursday-dated trade.
The main BIST 100 share index fell 2.61 percent to 101,218.30 points on Wednesday.
The dollar and U.S. bond yields rose on Thursday after President Donald Trump proposed the biggest U.S. tax overhaul in three decades and as strong U.S. economic data added to the case for a rate hike by the Federal Reserve later this year. The dollar’s strength pressured many emerging market currencies, helping drag down MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan 0.4 percent to one-month lows. PUTIN VISIT
President Tayyip Erdogan will host Russian Vladimir Putin at the presidential palace (1550 GMT). After dinner at 7 pm (1600 GMT) they will hold direct talks (1715 GMT) and a joint news conference (1830 GMT).
Before Putin’s arrival, Erdogan will give a speech at a police academy graduation ceremony in the presidential palace (0800 GMT).
Baghdad heaped pressure on Iraq’s Kurds on Wednesday, demanding they cancel their overwhelming vote for independence while parliament urged the Iraqi central government to send troops to take control of vital oil fields held by Kurdish forces. The Kurdistan Regional Government has offered to hold talks with Iraq’s central government about hosting Iraqi observers at KRG airports to help defuse a crisis triggered by a Kurdish independence vote, Kurdish Rudaw TV said Wednesday. Turkish jets struck a target in northern Iraq on Wednesday, killing 13 suspected Kurdish PKK fighters, the armed forces said in a statement. FINANCE MINISTER
Finance Minister Naci Agbal will speak at the Istanbul Finance Summit.
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim will speak at a symposium (0800 GMT) in the central Turkish province of Corum and he will also attend an opening ceremony there (1130 GMT).
ECONOMIC CONFIDENCE INDEX The Turkish Statistics Institute will release the economic confidence index for September (0700 GMT).
