If you have ground turkey in your fridge, you might want to check the label.
The not-food-in-food recall was announced Monday night and covers 38,475 pounds of ground turkey, according to the Miami Herald.
The affected turkey includes the Publix store brand — and could contain metal shavings from processing equipment.
Outside of the Publix brand ground turkey and turkey breast in 1.3-pound styrofoam trays, the recall also affects 1.2-pound trays of Fit & Active Fresh Ground Turkey and 1-pound trays of Weis Markets Fresh Ground Turkey Breast.
The products have the numbers 7268 and 7269 printed on the side of the trays, the Miami Herald writes.
The turkey was processed and packaged by Prestage Foods, of North Carolina.
The products were sent to distribution centers in Florida, Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
Consumers are advised to return the turkey for a refund or dispose of it, the Miami Herald points out.
Embedded in the USDA recall notice is text clarifying Prestage Foods’ observations. It says that the company’s employees working on sanitation for equipment spotted the potential mishap.
The same outlet also notes that a retail store reported discovering a metal shaving in one of the packages.
