Every year, Muslims all around the world observe the holy month of Ramadan by fasting.

Eating and drinking must be avoided from sunrise to sunset as they carry on with their daily activities.

One boss’ recent gesture has made the news simply because of how it solidifies the pure meaning of Ramadan.

Chief executive officer (CEO) and president of Hyundai Assan Turkey, Yoon Mong Hyun, revealed in a company letter that he decided to join in and fast along with his Muslim colleagues this year.

He stated that his main reason for doing so is “to be one with the (Hyundai Assan Turkey) family in their thoughts” as well as to better understand his employees.

The CEO added: “I wanted to express my joy and I’m proud of you.

“The thing that has shocked me the most is that you fast without seeing fasting as a chore and you show the willingness to fulfil it as an obligation.”

In fact, this is not the first year that Yoon has fasted. He started last year.

According to an online news report, Yoon began work in Turkey in 2016 and had even recited the country’s national anthem in Turkish at his first official press conference.

In his letter, he also shared that he was “left in awe” as a foreigner after noticing the “difficulty” of fasting amongst his staff.

Fasting alongside his company workers isn’t the only kind deed that the CEO carried out.

Yoon announced that Hyundai Turkey would also be taking steps to ease employees’ workload in the month of Ramadan as well as provide cheques to aid workers in “household shopping for iftar”.

In addition to these, there will also be designated extra break areas and special menus for staff to break their fast with.

It’s clear that Yoon has shown the true spirit of Ramadan with his gesture – by promoting peace and brotherhood amongst his staff members, and in turn, the rest of the world.
