Russia and Turkey have agreed to a contract for the delivery of the S-400 air defense system to Turkey, Anadolu Agency reported June 29. Russian presidential aide Vladimir Kozhin said that while details of the payment have yet to be resolved, Turkey’s membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is no obstacle to the deal. The S-400 systems can be used against aircraft and cruise and ballistic missiles. Ties between Russia and Turkey have recovered over the past year after being strained by the Turkish downing of a Russian fighter jet in 2015.
