TREMONT, Ill – Turkey was on high demand this weekend and it brought over 20,000 trotting to Tremont.
The town’s annual Turkey Fest celebration wrapped up its 52nd year Sunday evening.
Festival volunteers say they cooked up more than 16-hundred birds for the three-day event, which translates to close to 40 thousand turkey sandwiches served since Friday.
Organizers say seeing the community come together is what makes the event that much more special.
“We don’t pay anyone to be here, everyone loving, everyone that works here enjoys the town of Tremont, they enjoy the park system and they want to give back,” says Jason Kreiling, President of Tremont Betterment Assoc.
Money from past events has gone to the Tremont library, Park District and meals for seniors.
