Turkey Creek Golf Club: Hit the links or relax in a scenic setting | Entertainment

With its lush, softly sloping greens, tree-lined fairways and meandering creek set amidst a gently rolling landscape, the Turkey Creek Golf Club in Merrillville, part of the Lake County Parks system, remains as much a classic course as it was when it opened in 1928.

As a participant in the Summer at the South Shore, visitors get the chance to see the historic course and view its facilities including Banquet on the Green, a picturesque building set on a rise overlooking the course, offering stupendous views and room to accommodate events of up to 250 people.

Probably the most outstanding feature of Turkey Creek Golf Club, rated as a very playable course with many risk/reward holes, is Turkey Creek itself. Earning its name because of the wild turkeys who at times mill around the rippling creek as it winds through the course, the waterway is more than just a pretty backdrop; it comes into play on 12 of the 18 holes. All the holes are designed to present challenging play options for golfers of all ability levels.

“It’s a beautiful 18-hole golf course, and we’re excited to provide an opportunity for people to see it, walk around and maybe even play a round of golf,” says Emily Trisler, communications specialist for Lake County Parks, noting that Turkey Creek also features a putting green, pro shop, full-service restaurant and lounge as well as a snack bar.

The Summer at the South Shore QR code can be scanned in the pro shop, bar, and the banquet hall. Trisler says it won’t require participants to play a round of golf.

For those who do want to play, rates are affordable. Near I-65, Turkey Creek Golf Club is also easily accessible for golfers. Open seven days a week, tee times are accepted up to seven days in advance.

For those wanting to use the Banquet on the Green facilities, host a golf outing, have an outdoor gathering or other special events, the Turkey Creek staff will help you plan your get-together at a price that fits your budget.

“Like all of our parks, Turkey Creek is a special place,” says Trisler, “and we like working with people to make their time here special. We think the Summer at the South Shore app is the perfect way for people to get to learn more our parks and also our communities in Northwest Indiana.”
