Turkey warns citizens against travelling to America over risk of terror attacks and arbitrary arrests

Turkey has warned its citizens against travelling to America warning of possible terror attacks and arbitrary arrests.

In a travel warning statement on its website, the Turkish foreign ministry also said there had been an increase in terror attacks and violent incidents in the United States recently.

Tensions between the US and Turkey escalated last year when Turkish authorities arrested an employee at the US Consulate in Instanbul.

Turkish authorities accused the US employee of having links to an exiled Turkish preacher, allegations the US said were “without merit”.

Earlier this month, a U.S. jury found a Turkish banker guilty of helping Iran evade U.S. sanctions in another case which has strained diplomatic relations.
