US trying to reduce differences between govt, Turkey-borne alliance: Reports

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah on Saturday traveled to northern Balkh province to take part in the Martyrs Week commemoration event at a time when relation between the CEO and Balkh Governor has been strained.

According to some reports Abdullah trip to Balkh province was part of US efforts to encouraged members of the Afghanistaninfo-icon Salvation Alliance (ASA) to mend ties with the government.

The ASA was made months back in Turkey to give tough time to the government. Second Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum, Balkh Governor Atta Mohammad Noor, Deputy CEO Mohammad Mohaqiq and Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabani are major players of the alliance.

In the past Noor gave harsh statement regarding the CEO which his officer strongly rejected and termed their statements of Balkh governor an attempt for personal gains. Noor also launched talks with President Ashraf Ghani on the behalf of Jamiat-i-Islamiinfo-icon (JI).

The CEO office has not yet commented about Noor allegations but in the past Abdullah officer accused Balkh governor for director talks with President Ashraf Ghani and said the talks were conducted for personal interest.

Some sources revealed that Abdullah traveled to Balkh on the head of 49 members JI delegation which included Ahmd Zia Massoud, Ahmad Wali Massoud and would attend a gathering in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital.

 A individual, who wished to go unnamed, said Abdullah trip to Balkh happened after the mediation of Salahuddin Rabani to help reduce tensions between Noor and Abdullah and talk to the government regarding certain issues.

In addition, the Ansar Newspaper published a report on ‘US efforts to reduce differences between government and ASA members’. The report said US embassy in Kabul has been trying to improve relation between the government and ASA.

The newspaper while quoting Inayatullah Babar Farhamand, chief of staff of the first vice president office, wrote: “Mohammad Mohaqiq and Salahuddin Rabani after the continues demand of the US embassy agreed to take part in the national security council and cabinet meetings to make sure the government affairs going at normal pace.”

Farhmad said the participation of Rabbani and Mohaqiq was made in consultation with ASA members and nothing more existed beyond it.

The newspaper said relation between Noor and Abdullah has improved.
